ASCVD Risk & Heart Age Calculator
Find out your 10-year risk of a heart attack or stroke using the ACC/AHA Pooled Cohort Equations — and discover your Heart Age, the age your cardiovascular system is behaving like right now.
The Pooled Cohort Equations are validated for White and African American adults. Other groups use the White equation — results may be less precise.
The equation is validated for ages 40–79.
Next steps to discuss with your doctor:
What is ASCVD risk?
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) includes heart attacks and strokes caused by plaque build-up in the arteries. The Pooled Cohort Equations (ACC/AHA 2013) estimate your 10-year risk of a first major event — used in real clinical practice to guide treatment decisions.
Heart Age translates your risk score into something intuitive: the age at which a person with ideal risk factors would have the same 10-year risk. If your heart age is older than you are, your risk factors have accelerated cardiovascular ageing.
Understanding your risk tier
Low (<5%) — Your 10-year risk is reassuringly low. Focus on maintaining healthy habits. Statin therapy is not generally recommended.
Borderline (5–7.4%) — Risk is slightly elevated. Lifestyle factors and a clinician conversation about individual risk can help clarify next steps.
Intermediate (7.5–19.9%) — Moderate risk where statin therapy may be beneficial. A risk-benefit discussion with your doctor is recommended.
High (≥20%) — High risk where statin therapy is strongly recommended alongside lifestyle changes and close monitoring.
